Most newborns placed into foster care have been exposed to drugs or alcohol in utero, and are at high risk for health, developmental, and emotional challenges. Our goal at the Three Starlings Foundation is to address these concerns. We hope to build and nurture solid foundations for these babies, so they can go on to thrive in stable, loving homes.
We can make it easier for them.
Our current goal is to provide “smart bassinets” to emergency foster parents. Utilized in hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs), smart bassinets use special technology to soothe babies born with neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS)—a condition related to in utero drug exposure—and to promote safe sleep. Babies with NAS are often still experiencing withdrawal symptoms—including tremors, excessive crying, and feeding difficulties—when they are discharged from hospitals into the homes of foster carers. The cost of these bassinets puts them out of reach for most households. With your support, we hope to provide the bassinets to foster parents, so they are equipped to provide the most optimal care possible for these vulnerable infants.
